Buy a company · shelf company

A company that already exists in the register.

A shelf company is an already registered limited company. Before an actual transfer, its capital, history, obligations and ownership status are documented. Transfer can often be handled by power of attorney, subject to banking and customer checks.

This page also explains when the answer is no.

The background

This is why shelf companies exist at all.

It is not a shortcut around the rules. It is a solution to an order of events that does not work.

01Brønnøysund wants the capital firstA new AS is not registered until the NOK 30 000 share capital is confirmed as paid in.
02Banking and customer checks are separate stepsA registered company has an organisation number, but the bank always decides on account opening after its own customer checks.
03A shelf company may reduce registration waiting timeThe company is already in the register. Before an ownership change, its documentation, obligations and required registry filings are checked.

A shelf company is not always the right choice. If a new limited company can be established within your timeframe, ordinary incorporation may be the simpler and less expensive route. See the comparison below.

What you get

The company, the papers and the transfer.

A shelf company is not just a name in a register. This is what actually comes with it when ownership passes to you.

The papers and what follows

You receive the articles of association, the founding documents, the share register and the minutes belonging to the change of ownership — and we handle the registration of the transfer itself with Brønnøysund.

If the matter needs a lawyer or an accountant, Lars says so and brings in the right person. That cost is shown separately, never hidden inside our own price.

Bank, D-number and VAT registration are separate steps. See the questions at the foot of the page.

Price

What the money actually goes to.

The price of a shelf company is not one number. It is the company, the share capital that stays inside it, and the work of moving ownership to you. You get it in writing before you commit.

Common questions

What people ask before they buy.

If your question is not here, ask — you get the answer in writing, with no obligation.

How do I get a bank account opened?
A shelf company already has an organisation number, but this does not guarantee a bank account. Opening the account is the bank's decision, not ours — they run their own customer checks, and requirements vary between banks and with where the owners live. Lars tells you what a given bank usually asks for, so you have the papers ready before you apply.
Do I need a Norwegian ID or D-number?
People in central roles — general manager, board members, signatories — must be identifiable in Norwegian registers, and if you live abroad that normally happens through a D-number. It is a separate application with its own processing time, and it is often what actually governs how long a case takes. Tell us where the board lives when you ask, and we factor it in from the start.
What identification do I need to send, and when?
A change of ownership requires customer due diligence — it is a legal requirement, and every serious provider does it. But none of it should be sent through the form on this page. You ask first with a name, an email and one line. Once the matter is real, you are told exactly which documents are needed and given a secure way to deliver them. Passports and identity numbers belong in that step, never in a form on a public website.
Can debt or old history come with it?
A listing may be described as having no trading history or obligations only when this is documented for the specific company. If you are looking at an operating business instead, the opposite applies: the history is the whole point, so you get the accounts and obligations on the table before you decide. We always state clearly which of the two a listing is.
Can I change the company name?
Yes. Name and purpose are changed as part of the transfer, so the company carries your identity in the register afterwards. The name change carries its own registry fee, and it is shown separately in the quote — not hidden inside the price.
Why is there no list of company names here?
Because a public list goes stale the moment it is published, and because company names and owner details are never published without approval. We keep the list current internally and send you the live one, with status confirmed against the register the same week you ask. We do not invent listings to fill a list.
Next step

Ask for the list as it stands this week.

Tell us the market, the company type and when you need it. You get the list with status confirmed against the register, and a written quote before you commit to anything.
