Everybody who is paying tax in Norway has the right to get child care benefit for their children. The child care benefit is paid for children between the age of 0 and 18. The child does not have to live in Norway.
Child care benefit is granted from the month following the birth of the child or from the month after you and the child have arrived in Norway. If the child is born in Norway after you have been registered in the population registry, child care benefit will, as a general rule, be granted automatically. If you raise a child on your own, you may, under certain conditions, receive child care benefit for one additional child than you actually have. Child care benefit is given up to and including the month before the child reaches the age of 18. Child care benefit may reach an amount of up to 970 NOK per child per month.
